Junior Historians’ Camp

During the Junior Historians’ camp, the focus was on life during the early 1800′s. The children also learned about the early stone tools made by the Indians for hunting, scraping, grinding grain, and even making their clothes. Mr. Tom Hill came and talked about the War of 1812 and shared a diorama that he had created. Mr. Ron Marvin Jr. dressed as a worker from the 1800′s and shared some of the tools from trades such as carpentry,
store owner, pharmacist, and black smith. Each day the children made a craft having to do with the day’s topic and , of course, they also enjoyed refreshments some of which were also of the type served in the 180

Junior Historians’ Camp

This year the Junior Historian Camp was centered around the Civil War. Junior Historians began by filling out enlistment papers and were official Civil War soldiers. Next they designed their company’s flag. They also enjoyed a sample of the type of rations that the soldiers would have had to eat. During the two days they learned about the underground railroad, performed a rife volley with poppers, and even played a game that was popular during the Civil War Era called “Drop the Hankie”. During the afternoon of the second day, they were visited by a Confederate soldier! Mr. Fadley informed the campers about the different pieces of equipment and clothing that he wore or carried and even fired a couple of rounds from his musket rife. The Junior Historians had a great time while learning a little about history.
